Project Title:  “Comparing Quality and Equity of Care in the VA and Medicare Managed Care”


About the Project:
The project compared clinical performance and disparities in clinical performance in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System and Medicare managed care in the areas of diabetes, cardiovascular and cancer screening care.

Biosketch:
Amal Trivedi, M.D., M.P.H. is Assistant Professor of Community Health at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Research Investigator at the Providence VA Medical Center. His research interests include measurement of quality in health care, racial and socioeconomic disparities in health care, and patient and provider incentives that impact the quality and equity of care. His current research includes a study of the effect of cost-sharing on the use of preventive services and health outcomes among the elderly and an evaluation of Rhode Island’s HealthPact program to expand insurance coverage among small business groups.

Dr. Trivedi teaches courses on Comparative Health Care Systems and Quality Improvement in Brown University’s Program in Public Health. He also conducts a weekly health policy seminar for internal medicine housestaff and medical students at the Providence VA Medical Center, where he practices internal medicine.

He received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine and post-graduate training in Primary Care Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Trivedi was a California Endowment Scholar in Health Policy at Harvard University and received a Masters in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Trivedi’s Physician Faculty Scholars Program project was entitled “Comparing Quality and Equity of Care in the VA and Medicare Managed Care.”
